Empathy

& Courage

Artworks for an employee workplace handbook for navigating situations

The Empathy and courage handbook was a nudge document for employees to articulate different scenarios for navigating these emotions.

As a visual communicator for the book, one of my approaches was to humanise the words and the feelings from abstract ideas to relatable character. How they feel, would/ could be how they look.

Empathy was thus a blue-green optimisim, larger-rounded, a more-than-human being which would fell soft. Its point of inquiry was humble. Courage on the other hand was smaller, but sharper- a nudge to breakout and to take the risk. Courage doesn't always have to look big, but it would always be impactful.

The forms and the larger visual communication was kept sketchy and used a colour-texture palette which layers onto each other- offering a non-direct, hesistant, soft  tone of voice yet giving the possibility of an employee being able to build their own relationship with it.
